The teachings of Jesus are apply to our lives yesterday, today, and tomorrow.
Think back on every teacher you’ve ever had. Who was your favorite teacher? Why?
IF DISCUSSION IS SLOW: Who is your favorite teacher outside the classroom? A coach, parent, role model?
Why does God want us to learn from His teachings instead of us having all the knowledge from the beginning?
If we knew everything, we wouldn’t need Jesus as a teacher. Learning from Jesus increases our need to rely on him in our lives.
Name a time where someone’s teaching helped you through a tough season?
IF DISCUSSION IS SLOW: When did you learn a valuable lesson from someone?
JAMES 1:22-24But don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves. For if you listen to the word and don’t obey, it is like glancing at your face in the mirror. You see yourself, walk away, and forget what you look like.
How can we apply Jesus’s teaching to our lives?
Putting into practice what we learn. Understanding that the teaching is relevant to us today. Pray for Jesus to help us in areas that we need teaching.
Pastor Trey gave CityHope a challenge this week. Each day, spend 15 minutes reading the “words in red.” Words in red are words that Jesus spoke that are recorded in the Bible. Challenge your small group to do this challenge WITH you. Let them know you are going to do it with them and keep each other accountable.
