What is something that you have had to train for? Did you enjoy training for it? How did you actually do when you competed or were tested?
Why did you train for that particular activity? Did you choose to pursue that activity or was it forced on you?
Living a bold life for Christ is always a choice for us, but choosing another option will result in a life less than what we hoped for. Living boldly is the only way to have the life we really want.
2 COR. 9:24-27Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever. Therefore, I do not run like someone running aimlessly; I do not fight like a boxer beating the air. No, I strike a blow to my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize.
Paul talked about the guys competing in these games to win a prize that won’t last. What does he mean by that? Would you say that you are pursuing a prize that won’t last?
What is a prize that does last?
receiving eternal life, leading a friend to Christ, there are many things in this life that will outlive us..
Paul mentions that he trains his body even when it hurts because he is fully committed. Would your friends say you were fully committed to God? Why? If not, what would it take to change their answer?
What is an area of spiritual training that you need to focus on this week?
Give some examples: reading your Bible, praying, caring about someone more than yourself..
