The Price of Commitment

Have you ever been a part of something that stopped you from doing something else?

Maybe you had to choose between 2 different sports, or maybe you had to choose between doing something with friends or going to church, but no matter what, when you make a commitment to a team or to your small group or some kind of organization, that means you have to sacrifice something else. When you make a commitment to Christ you are choosing to give up something else.

LUKE 9:23Then He said to the crowd, “if any of you wants to be my follower, you must give up your own ways, take up your cross daily, and follow me.”

What are some ways that you have to “give up your own ways?”

Denying yourself is about saying that God is better than my desires. God is better than things that I may want to do, but I know that I shouldn’t do. God is better than me sleeping in, so I’ll get up and read my Bible. God is better than staying home and not going to group.

Why is “denying yourself” such a hard thing to do?

We have so many pressures around us in life that push and pull us in different direction, but a relationship with God is a straight line. It takes consistency in your relationship with Him to stay on that straight line. No one is perfect, but we can all be consistent.
